Mike Robinson, CEO of Trans-Global Events Ltd, lifts the [non-plastic] lid on the world’s first and only forum dedicated to the latest technological solutions and innovative strategies to curtail plastic waste, reduce our reliance on fossil fuel-based plastics and lower our plastic footprints

Online registration for the inaugural Plastic Free World Conference & Expo 2019, the world’s first and only forum and exhibition dedicated to intelligent technologies, materials, manufacturing techniques and business models to combat the global plastics waste epidemic, is now open. Taking place in Frankfurt, Germany, over two days from Thursday 27 June to Friday 28 June 2019, Plastic Free World Conference & Expo 2019 is already primed to attract more than 400 senior-level executives from some of the world’s largest international organizations that are actively seeking concrete ways to reduce plastic waste and lower their plastic footprints.

Highly focused conference program with +80 speakers
A preliminary conference program has been published, compiled with the assistance of a specially selected Advisory Board featuring Siân Sutherland from A Plastic Planet, European Bioplastics’ Kristy-Barbara Lange, Henry le Fleming from PricewaterhouseCoopers and Dr George Kellie from Kellie Solutions. This highly focused, solutions-driven program boasts more than 80 globally renowned professionals in fields such as circular economy, bio-based and alternative materials, sustainability, packaging, recycling, recyclable materials and re-use, legislation, and more. “Our four conference streams and range of exhibitors highlight the depth and diversity of the event,” confirms Mike Robinson, CEO, Trans-Global Events Ltd, the event’s organizer. “We have industry-leading experts confirmed to present the state-of-the-art from sectors such as automotive and transportation, packaging, the food and beverage industry, from fashion and textiles as well as retail and consumer goods.”

Many authorities believe the planet is already on the verge of ecological disaster and that immediate action is necessary if we want to prevent the world’s biosphere from spiraling past the point of no return. “Plastic has become the default material for almost everything we buy and has been misused and overused in many cases,” Robinson adds. “We can focus on the scale of the plastics problem and recount the statistics all day long – they’re highlighted ad infinitum in the media and have captured the imagination as a result of documentaries such as Blue Planet II and Drowning In Plastic – but there is too much emphasis on what mankind has done to proliferate the crisis and not enough on how mankind can now tackle it. That’s precisely why we have created this event.”

Plastic Free World Conference & Expo 2019 will therefore focus on three aspects to create a circular economy in the plastics sector: reducing unnecessary plastic use and eliminating single-use plastics; increasing the use of sustainable materials and bio-based alternatives and reducing our reliance on fossil-fuel based materials; and increasing recycling rates and reusing the millions and millions of tonnes of plastic that we have already created.

“We can’t solve this overnight but what companies such as Iceland, IKEA, Thornton’s Budgens, Adidas, Hi Fly, Unilever and others demonstrate is that you actually can make an immediate impact on your plastics footprint if you are bold, committed and willing to think outside of the box,” Robinson explains, highlighting some of this year’s confirmed participants. “Long-term corporate sustainability goals, PR-seeking pledges and legislation are all well and good but many experts predict we don’t have that long.”

The new global marketplace for anyone concerned with plastic waste reduction and their plastic footprint
Robinson goes on to reveal that the overwhelmingly positive response to Plastic Free World Conference & Expo in the past few months confirms the need for a global meeting place in which all levels of the supply chain can come together, yet unique in that the event is attracting delegates across industries to share their experiences and know-how. “The plastic pollution problem can only be solved with the combined efforts of all key players in the system. There is no all-in-one-fix but through a global collaborative effort between manufacturers, retailers, materials innovators, suppliers, recyclers, NGOs and governments, we truly believe we can create a world free from plastic waste – as Siân [Sutherland] often says, ‘to turn off the plastic tap’.”

At Plastic Free World Conference & Expo 2019, delegates will find out how to eliminate single-use plastics throughout the supply chain. They will discover new design and manufacturing techniques to reduce materials waste. They will not only be able to source truly sustainable alternatives to fossil fuel-based plastics and pinpoint the latest material innovations from some of the world’s leading biomaterial/biochemical and bioplastics specialists, but they will also learn via some fascinating case studies how adopting some of these smart materials and sustainable strategies makes commercial as well as environmental sense.

Other industry experts supporting the event include the European Commission, the United Nations, WRAP, the IEMA, Canopy, plus dozens of suppliers and researchers from more than 20 different countries. Please watch this space for more information and exclusive articles from our +80 participants.

Plastic Free World Conference & Expo 2019 will take place from Thursday 27 June to Friday 28 June, at the Kap Europa, Frankfurt Messe, Frankfurt, Germany.
