More and more stadia around the world are turning their backs on single-use plastics

Australia’s Sydney Showground, a venue for major concerts and sporting events, is the latest to take action in the plastic crisis by partnering with WISE to ban single-use disposable plastic drinking cups. Starting this March, the multi-year agreement with ‘WISE: It’s In Your Hands’, will see a supply of re-usable cups distributed from venue-run outlets and bars at the venue.

“The WISE cups are a sensible and practical answer to a growing environmental issue,” suggested Brock Gilmour, RAS chief executive. “Additionally, re-usable cups will significantly reduce daily post-event cleaning costs and assist with improved waste management.”

“We are excited to be launching our product at Sydney Showground,” enthused Craig Lovett, WISE chief executive and co-founder. “Our market research and trials over the past two years have proved the Australian venue and event industry and their customers are desperately looking for an alternative to disposable single-use plastics.”

Statistics reveal that more than five million disposable plastic cups are going to landfill in Australia each month, while in recent surveys almost 96% of respondents wanted to see single-use cups being eliminated. “Patrons are strongly in favor of donating their AU$1 returnable deposit to charity,” Lovett added. “They are contaminating our land and are ending up in waterways, rivers and beaches. The WISE solution empowers patrons and venue management to actively participate in the war on waste and make a significant environmental change.”

Plastic Free World Conference & Expo 2019 will take place from Thursday 27 June to Friday 28 June, at the Kap Europa, Frankfurt Messe, Frankfurt, Germany. To register for this highly focused and solutions-driven event, please click here. For sponsorship and exhibition opportunities, please email
