Press Release: Spinnova

Plastic Free World Conference & Expo 2019 participant Spinnova to collaborate with world-renowned textiles expert to bring its sustainable fiber to market

Finland’s sustainable fiber specialist Spinnova has revealed that it is to work closely alongside textile professor Nawar Kadi, which the company believes will significantly help and speed up the development of the Spinnova fiber to suit commercial applications. Dr Kadi, a professor with the University of Borås in Sweden, is a leading authority in the field of textile technology and specializes in areas including but not limited to textile recycling, fiber, yarn, textile structures and composites.

“The kind of technical and industrial textile expertise that we need in commercializing our fiber is not easy to find in Europe,” revealed Janne Poranen, Spinnova’s CEO. “With Dr Kadi, we found a highly professional expert in his field, one who can really help us speed-up bringing our first products to the market.”

Kadi has agreed to assist Spinnova’s product development as a private consulting expert in addition to his current position at the University of Borås. The collaboration includes training and consulting in various topics around developing this novel fiber and he is clearly pleased about the appointment. “It is a tremendous opportunity to collaborate with a great team who is determined to translate this creative, innovative and revolutionary idea into a new technology to produce sustainable fiber,” he enthused. “This eco-friendly fiber will cause a stir in the textile market.”

The timing of Kadi’s involvement is optimal, since Spinnova will be focusing on end-product development with partnering brands this year. The company’s new, industrial-scale pilot production line in Finland was completed in December. Production is being ramped-up in this first quarter of 2019, after which sufficient amounts of fiber can be produced for customer trials.

Spinnova is also in the process of recruiting an in-house textile expert, to be the liaison between the company and partner brands in joint product development projects. The Finnish textiles innovator has also invested in fiber processing and finishing technology that can be utilized in the upcoming trials.

Plastic Free World Conference & Expo 2019 will take place from Thursday 27 June to Friday 28 June, at the Kap Europa, Frankfurt Messe, Frankfurt, Germany.
