Press Release: WooBamboo

WooBamboo, a Florida-based company providing eco-friendly dental healthcare, offers a way to reduce the volume of discarded toothbrushes across America

Almost every single piece of plastic that we have ever used in our lives still exists somewhere on the planet – as we know, a lot of it in our oceans and in landfills. And while there has been a huge amount of debate about bottles and straws, the conversation is beginning to switch to another polluting culprit – the toothbrush.

It’s hard to comprehend the impact a toothbrush can have on the environment. Yet reports from 2015 show that US citizens throw out anywhere between 850 million to one billion toothbrushes a year collectively, which equates to around 50,000,000lbs in weight. So, while buying a new toothbrush every three months makes your dentist happy, the environment tells a different tale.

Cape Coral, Florida-based WooBamboo offers an alternative to the traditional polypropylene plastic and nylon version – an organic bamboo brush that is both sustainable and, the company points out, panda-friendly, available for adults, kids and even pets, which allows consumers to replace their toothbrushes every three months without adding excess plastic to the environment.

Not only are WooBamboo toothbrushes eco-friendly, they are also naturally antimicrobial, which means users can rest comfortably in the knowledge that their toothbrushes – though made of material more porous than plastic – will not harbor bacteria and other germs. Even the packaging is made from recycled and recyclable materials.

WooBamboo offers other types of dental care products, too, including all-natural dental floss and toothpaste. The company is also working on replacing its packaging material – currently designed with recyclable PET plastic – with biodegradable plant-based plastics, and they are even working on their own patent for biodegradable bamboo plastic that could be an exciting game-changer for the single-use products industry.
