Sirane’s innovative ‘Earthpouch’ has been shortlisted as one of 10 finalists in the Innovations Gallery at this week’s Packaging Innovations exhibition.

Available in standard, barrier and high-barrier variants, Earthpouch would appear to be a thumbs-up for anyone looking to remove unnecessary plastics from their packaging. “If you’re serious about moving away from plastics, then this and many of the other products in our Earth Packaging range might be exactly what you’re looking for,” confirmed Sirane’s managing director, Simon Balderson, who will be giving a presentation on non-plastic alternatives for food packaging at Plastic World Free Conference & Exhibition 2019 this June. No doubt Earthpouch will be among the topics of discussion.

A paper-based solution with a heat-sealable coating, which is preformed into a stand-up pouch, Earthpouch can be supplied with a variety of different barriers to suit a range of needs. The same plastic-free material can also be supplied in reel format, ‘Earthfilm’, for clients looking to flow-wrap as well as ‘Earthbags’.

As far as applications for Earthpouch go, Balderson informed us it is perfect for a range of dry and moist products, including granolas, porridge oats, grains, health/diet supplements and more.

“We are constantly innovating and the environment is at the forefront of a lot of our thinking,” Balderson added. “Plastics – and perhaps more specifically removing plastics where possible – is the hot-topic and it’s great that we are able to offer this product. We’re already working on enhancing and expanding the Earthpouch range, including higher-barrier pouches, ovenable versions and more. The Earthpouch is not just a product, it’s the start of a whole range of plastic-free.”

Last year was a big one for the Earthpouch with some major industry recognition. It scooped a Green Apple Award, presented at the Houses of Parliament and it also secured 1st place at the UK Packaging Awards in the Resource Efficient Pack of the Year category. The Earthpouch was also recognized at the Sustainable Food Awards in Amsterdam, where it finished 3rd in the sustainable packaging category. Good luck at this week’s gongs!
